3 Questions
On the first day of the IP course, we’ll be discussing what makes good (and
not so good) “questions”. We
need some material to work with. So,
in preparation for the first class, go into your backyard (or a quiet place with
natural inspiration) and come up with three short biological questions (e.g.,
based on observations you make or on other thoughts that form in your mind).
Write down three of these questions and bring to them to the first class
meeting. The purpose here is not to
judge your ability to come up with the greatest questions since
Darwin
. It’s to have a wide collection
of questions that will form the basis of a lively discussion.
There are no right or wrong questions, although we will use the questions
as a means to formulate our views about what makes a “good questions” (we
need “bad” ones too for contrast). So,
come with three questions and prepared to talk, listen, think, argue, and
reflect.
