The Curricula

Students majoring in Biology are offered a degree that is flexible, yet ensures a broad coverage of the life sciences. The Biology major has six sub-specialization tracks (above). All tracks require significant introductory coursework and credits in Calculus and/or Statistics, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physics.

Most tracks emphasize courses in evolution, ecology, physiology, taxonomic diversity, and/or organismal structure, and most tracks require the following major coursework and credits (passed with a C or better):

The tracks otherwise vary in the specific introductory courses and and major courses that satisfy the requirements of the Biology degree. These differences provide the options that distinguish one track from another. Students can further individualize their curricula with additional biology courses from the many different departments, colleges, and units in the life sciences at UF.

Independent Study: No more than six credit hours of independent study (4905) may count toward the credit-hour requirements for the Biology degree.

Transfer Students: Transfer students must take at least three courses from the major coursework and credit hour requirements at the University of Florida as part of their Biology degree.

Honors: To graduate cum laude, a student must achieve a 3.5 upper division GPA. To graduate magna or summa cum laude a student must meet GPA and other requirements as specified by CALS and CLAS.

Overseas Study: Consult an advisor or the UF International Center.
